Another week of pain after running 20 miles last Sunday. I cut back a little on miles this week to try to recover from some of the new aches and pains that cropped up (I think some of these are here to stay). I also encountered another skunk on the Henry Hudson Trail on Wednesday that ran with me briefly – I guess since this is the second time that’s happened that it’s not as uncommon as I thought to have a skunk join you for the early AM run. I took the day off on Saturday and went into NYC to see the greatest Shakespearean actor of the modern era, my cousin Rick Fay, in The Winter’s Tale (review & photos here). The play was great, although it meant getting home at 2:00am Saturday night. Ordinarily this would not be a problem, but I was scheduled to run the Indian Trails 15k Sunday morning. So with about 4 1/2 hours of sleep under my belt I hit the starting line of the race. Luckily this was more of a light training run than an all out racing effort, but it is still a course that runs through the hills of Navesink and Bodman Park, so it is an effort at any pace. Another 20 mile run coming up next Sunday – 4 weeks to go from today until the NJM.
